Staff Full-Stack Engineer

Job Description

As a Staff Full-Stack Engineer, you will play an integral role in Prisms’ continued success by taking ownership of our web-based Teacher Dashboard, Teacher Forum, and company-internal web-based tools.  Teachers use the Dashboard to monitor student progress while they are in VR, orchestrate classroom activities, assess student learning, plan lessons, and import class rosters.. School administrators use the Dashboard to monitor school-wide usage and manage licensing.  You will work with the Customer Service team to resolve issues associated with the Teacher Dashboard and Teacher Forum.  Your expertise will enable educators to interact intuitively with our platform, ensuring user satisfaction and product reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and champion the development, enhancement, and maintenance of  Teacher Dashboard, Teacher Forum, and company-internal web-based tools.
  • Support the Customer Service team as well as the VR development team during the product development cycle.
  • Maintain and build interfaces with various external Student Information Systems (SIS), in order to facilitate class rostering and performance reporting.
  • Actively participate in the entire lifecycle of application development including system design, coding, testing, deployment, documentation, and support.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and maintain high code quality standards. Ensure practices such as test-driven development are adhered to.
  • Work in close collaboration with product leaders and UX/UI designers to create and deliver a cohesive and intuitive user experience.
  • Monitor performance and optimize backend systems to ensure reliability and scalability.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies that can enhance product effectiveness, recommending relevant adoptions and integrations.

Requirements

  • Passionate about reinventing STEM education and making a significant impact through your work.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. Advanced degrees are highly regarded.
  • Proven experience in full-stack development, with expertise in Typescript, HTML, Javascript, CSS, React, Express, Node.js and Postgres, or similar technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and asynchronous architectures and proficiencies with database management.
  • Expert knowledge of RESTful services, API development, and authentication strategies (such as Passport).
  • Solid understanding of cloud services (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud), and infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, and testing.  We use git, cypress, jest, and jmeter.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and manage large-scale systems and their deployments.  We use ec2 and Docker.
  • Strong analytical thinking, innovative problem-solving abilities, and excellent time management skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying technical details to a diverse audience of product leaders.
  • Prior experience with educational technology, VR, or related sectors is a definite plus.
